Gevaert upset in 200 meters |
The race for the women's 200-meter title was expected to be a heated battle between Belgium's European champion, Kim Gevaert, and long-time rival Laverne Jones of the U.S. Virgin Islands. But it was Cydonie Mothersill of the Cayman Islands that found the finish line first. Mothersill, who placed sixth in the 200 at last year's IAAF World Athletics Final, was simply too fast for Gevaert, who was running in just her second race of the season. Mothersill crossed the line in 23.17 seconds, while Gevaert came in second at 23.32. Jones was third in 23.41. (WCSN, WCSN.com) Time: 00:52 Author: sportsnetwork |
